Juliet’s Journey

By Kathy Gates

Juliet Carlsen is about to become a volunteer in an art school in the tiny northern Italian village of Baiardo. She has recently suffered the loss of her mother. Serene surroundings, a warm welcome and the attentions of a handsome local named Luca help her come to terms with her loss. Then someone from her past shows up and turns everything on its head. Juliet finds herself in the middle of a conflict that threatens to tear the fabric of village life.

How does this book “tie” to the previous book listing?

Juliet’s Journey ties to the previous book listing Gifted Merely Human by the fact that a journey, whether external or internal is at the very heart of the human condition. Every story takes the reader on a journey and every journey holds the promise of, at least, one story.

Hashtags for Readers and Authors

Authors need readers as much as readers need authors. Similarly, authors need other authors. After all, no author is an island.

And, of course, everyone needs hashtags. Readers use them mostly to recommend books to other readers. Writers use them to share new releases and special promotions and to play “author games,” often sharing an excerpt from a WIP (work in progress). Some hashtags represent book genres. Others are used by writers’ groups to connect with other members. The possibilities of hashtag usage are endless.

Undeniably, it’s important to understand a hashtag before using it. For example, authors shouldn’t attach #CR4U which means “Clean Reads for You” to books with a lot of gore or adult language. Not only would it not be appropriate, but people who follow the hashtag and subsequently buy a book believing it is a “clean read” will likely be upset when they learn it is not. This is an outstanding way for an author to earn a 1-star “not as advertised” or “I hated this book” review. It would be equally undesirable to attach the hashtag of a group without being a member. This importance of hashtag comprehension holds true for readers too. Readers looking for science fiction, won’t likely find it by following #ContemporaryRomance.

The long list of hashtags below are associated with reading and writing. Some have other uses as well and maybe that’s a good thing. A personal trainer following #MotivationMonday, for instance, might notice a few wise words of an author and look closer—maybe even buy a book.

This list is only for entertainment. It is by no means complete, nor will it ever be. The hashtags are linked to Twitter however many or perhaps most are used across the social networks.

Gifted Merely Human

By Stephanie Adams

A world exists beyond our sight, just within reach. Evelyn, one of a select few with special gifts, is recruited to live in a community of the gifted who use their powers for profit. Evelyn finds herself wrapped up in a secret threatening to destroy the new home she has come to love or it could destroy the country that she calls home. In the battle between good and evil not everything is black and white, so how will she decide which path is right or wrong? Evelyn must uncover the truth and decide her own fate before it is too late.

How does this book “tie” to the previous book listing?

Gifted Merely Human “ties” to the previous book on the list, Shadow of Shame, through the element of danger. In Shadow of Shame, the hero saves a woman he loves from danger. In Gifted Merely Human, the heroine is endowed with powers that make her a force of nature. She saves the man she loves from danger while putting herself at risk in the process. She loves him so much that she is willing to sacrifice herself in order to save him. This love that she feels, is a new experience for her and one that pulls her out of the rut she had been in since the death of her mother.

About the Author

Stephanie AdamsStephanie has loved reading and writing since she was very young. She wrote her first full length book by hand when she was 14 years old. When she was young, she didn’t get grounded from going places, she was grounded from reading.

A veteran of the armed forces, a licensed cosmetologist, biology and math teacher, and small business owner, she wears many hats. She has two beautiful children and a wonderful husband who support her when she just can’t get a story out of her head and has to sit down for many hours alone to write. Her goal is to continue sharing her heart with the world, through her books. Her greatest aspiration is to inspire young minds to create art of their own and inspire them to have the courage to share it with the world.

Shadow of Shame

Shadow of Shame: Book One of the Shadow series

By Barbara Goss

Jonas Armstrong’s sordid past forces him into a reclusive lifestyle.

But, when Ivy Jeffries falls hopelessly in love with him, he is forced to turn her against him to protect her pristine reputation—even though he wants nothing more in life than a relationship with her. Will he find a way to leave his past behind him and move forward with his life? How can he stop the enemy who is blackmailing him, and threatening to blacken his name further?

How does this book “tie” to the previous book listing?

Shadow of Shame ties into Maybe You Should Move Those Away From You because there are all sorts of addictions: overeating, drinking, drugs, sex, just to name a few. Addictions are not easy to break, and we need loved ones who care to help us. In Shadow of Shame, my hero is an eighteen-year-old who is “sowing his oats.” He broke away from God and the church with this behavior. He soon learns he now has to pay a penalty for his behavior and he feels his life is ruined. He gets himself right with God, but not with himself. He feels the guilt as a heavy burden that he must carry. He becomes a near recluse for five years until loved ones finally are able to break through his barrier of guilt. Guilt of this type is an addiction. When the woman he loves is in danger, he is forced to leave his comfort zone of five years to rescue her.

About the Author

Barbara Goss

Barbara Masci Goss is now just Barbara Goss. Barbara Goss lives in Western New York State.

Fleming Revel published Forbidden Legacy, Captured Heart, Dangerous Illusions, and Stolen Heritage in the 90’s. After obtaining the book rights she converted them into EBooks. They are ageless stories that are begging to be read again and again.

The books have plenty of Indians, kidnappings, danger, peril, mystery, and romance to keep you turning the pages. Recently, she has written six more exciting westerns: Silent Love, The Romantic Ruse, Temptation by Moonlight, and the Hearts of Hays series: Dangerous Illusions, The Final Vow, The Kissing Bridge, and Drawn from Darkness.

Barbara’s greatest influence in writing is the 100 books written by Grace Livingston Hill. As a Christian writer she weaves a bit of godliness into the romance and adventure and her books are always clean.

Maybe You Should Move Those Away From You

I’m Earl Chinnici and I’d like to welcome you to Special Novel Ties, a site where each book listing is cunningly “tied” to the one listed previously by a common, albeit often thin, thread. Each new listing will reveal this connection. Perhaps you’ll find your next “favorite author” in this way. If this manner of serendipity isn’t your cup of tea, you may also choose to browse by tag (a.k.a. keyword). Each book’s primary genre is represented by one tag. Authors are asked to provide nine additional keywords to help encourage serendipities.

SpecialNovelTies.com will occasionally include a book that is non-fiction, though this site is primarily focused on what is commonly referred to as “clean fiction” to stay true to its name “Special Novel Ties.” And, since every great journey must first begin and since I’m still writing my first fictitious masterpiece, I hereby launch this website with this post about my first book, a true story about the sunset of my tobacco cigarette addiction and the dawn of my career as an author.

~~~ Maybe You Should Move Those Away From You ~~~
At forty years of age, I was broke. So broke I couldn’t even afford a birthday gift for my dear friend, Cathy. I was also severely addicted to tobacco cigarettes. My story begins when Cathy turned my makeshift present for her into a gift of life for me. If you have ever said, “I wish I could quit smoking” or “I want to cut back on cigarettes,” this is the book for you. Although my personal journey, it contains insights and encouragement to help you break away from your own addiction.
